gig is a response to the spiritual crisis in Welsh Wales.
gig was established in October 1999, and Arfon Jones was appointed as Field Officer. (Before working with gig, Arfon was General Secretary of the Evangelical Alliance in Wales)
gig is a response to the spiritual crisis and exodus seen from the churches, particularly during the second half of the 20 century. The most recent statistics are to be found in the 1995 Welsh Churches Survey report, The Challenge to Change, published by the Bible Society.
It was recognised that there is no end of resources available in English for the English speaking churches, whilst there is a dire lack of resources in the Welsh language.
gig’s message is captured in the trust’s title – Hope for Wales. We believe that there is hope, and that Jesus Christ is that hope.
gig’s purpose is to promote the spread of the gospel among the Welsh speaking communities. However gig is not an organistaion that has been set up to do the work of evangelism on behalf of the churches. gig wants to be a handmaiden that serves and supports local churches in their endeavours to share the good news in their local communities.
