About gig » Why establish gig?
The spiritual need in Wales has never been greater.
Here are a few statistics:
- Only 8.7% of the population attend church on an average Sunday
- Less than 1.5% of Wales’ population are evangelical Christians, and only a small minority of those are Welsh-speakers
- 92.3% of Wales’ children have no church background whatsoever
- About 20% of the population speak Welsh – and there’s an increasing number of young people learning Welsh in school
The trustees of gig see an urgent need to challenge the present situation by helping local churches – both Welsh-speaking and English-speaking churches – in their outreach to the Welsh-speaking population.
